Governor Information

Meet the Governing Board!

Whitgreave Junior School Governors play an integral part in the life of Whitgreave. The Governing Board give up their time to support all aspects of school life at Whitgreave.

The Governors attend regular meetings with the Head Teacher and other members of the Leadership Team, to monitor, evaluate and challenge the school, on an on-going basis. They also support other events within school, such as the Christmas Fayre, Parent Consultation Evenings and School Performances.

Each Governor is also part of a Link Governor Team, who further supports improvements in teaching and learning, with a focus on a particular area, such as Quality of Teaching, Behaviour and Safety, amongst other key areas.

Governor Bios!

Brenda Hawkins

I have been a Governor at Whitgreave for 15 years and Chair of Governors for 7. I have a great commitment to the children and love the community of Low Hill having worked in the area for 21 years. I am part of the Achievement Committee and serve on both Finance and Achievement Committees. I enjoy visiting the school – talking and listening to children both in the classroom and around school. I regularly meet with staff to keep updated on school developments as we all strive to deliver outstanding teaching and learning.

Jayne Pownall

I am proud to be a Governor at Whitgreave, I am Vice Chair and Chair of the Finance, Health and Safety and Site Management Committee.  I am also Link Governor for Behaviour and Safety.  My interest in education started when I had my children who are now adults, I was a Governor at their Primary School.  I have worked in Governor Support for 10 years.  I am pleased to say I was on the appointment panel that appointed the current Headteacher.

Craig Lockyer

I have been a Governor at Whitgreave for two years. I joined the Governing Body as a Community Governor and I’m now a Parent Governor. I love the role and being part of an efficient Governing Body. It is fantastic to see how the school is continually improving for the better and being a part of that process. I’m also part of the Finance Governor team.

Kerry Hardy

I am a newly-appointed Governor at Whitgreave, however, I have been a Governor before. I enjoy the role and like being involved in all aspects of school life. I also work within school as a Teaching Assistant and am able to work with lots of children to support them with their learning.

Angie Cox

I am the Family Support/Attendance Officer. I have been in this post for the last two years, however, I have worked in the school for the last 10 years. I enjoy working with the parents and offering them the support and advice that they need. I am also part of the Safeguarding Team within the school and on the Governing Body. I enjoy being a part of the ‘team spirit’ that we work within at Whitgreave.

Sarah Redfern

I am very proud to be the Headteacher Governor at Whitgreave Junior School. WJS is an exciting, vibrant place to be, where all pupils are challenged to achieve. I have been a School Governor now for approximately 12 years, at a number of schools. However, this is my first post as Headteacher Governor. WJS has an experienced Governing Body, who work in close partnership with all other stakeholders, in order to provide the very best education for our fantastic pupils.

Emma Guest

I have worked in the Low Hill community for a number of years as Deputy Head of Whitgreave Infant School. Almost all of our children transfer to Whitgreave Juniors at the end of Year 2 and being a Governor allows me to stay involved in their learning. I am part of the Quality of Teaching Link Governor Committee and make regular visits to school to meet children and staff.

Adrian McDowell

I’m currently a Parent Governor at both Whitgreave Infant and Junior Schools. Having served on the Infant Governing Body for four years, I have learned a lot about school management and the structure of primary education. I have served as a Link Governor at the Juniors on the Health and Safety Committee which has enabled me to support and challenge schools. As a parent, and qualified adult educator, I am passionate about education and believe that these roles provide me with the necessary skills to support me in my Governor role.

Kate Merrick

I have worked at Whitgreave for seven years; I love the community and staff that I work with! As the RE Leader, I am linked to our SDP aim to further develop and embed the skills of teaching staff to deliver outstanding teaching and learning in RE. Jane Aldridge

As a former Headteacher of two schools and a School Improvement Adviser for 7 years, I have a wide range of experience and skills to support me in my role as School Governor. In my role as a Headteacher and Adviser, I have worked very closely with Governors for a long time and have greatly valued their support (and challenge) in ensuring that children have the best chance they can to succeed. I am passionate about providing the very best education for all children, regardless of their needs, abilities and backgrounds.

Nichola Parker

I have been working at Whitgreave Junior School for approximately 2 years. I am an Associate Governor and also, a member of the Teaching and Learning Link Governor Team. I enjoy working closely with the Governing Body, to support the school in moving forward.
